Understanding Assisted Living

A Lifestyle Change

Assisted Living is an independent lifestyle with the availability of assistance in areas of personal care and daily support. Depending on individual resident needs, support services can include personal care services such as help with bathing, dressing, medication administration, and planned recreation with friends of the same age group.

Individual apartments are designed to maintain resident independence and insure aging with dignity, privacy and respect. Residents will continue to enjoy a cozy atmosphere by furnishing the apartment of their choice with their own cherished possessions.

Three home cooked meals a day, laundry, housekeeping, and transportation services are also available in order for residents to enjoy a life of leisure and relaxation.

Resident Criteria

Assisted Living Resident Criteria means that residents must be independently mobile, eat independently, able to transfer independently or with intermittent assist. They must be able to dress/undress independently or with minimal assistance, be able to be self directed or willing to accept direction and be able to manage incontinence problems with some assistance if necessary.

Usually seniors choose assisted living because they have a need for personal care or support services on an intermittent or continuous basis and desire to continue living independently.

Extended Care Needs

Assisted Living is not a nursing home. People who live in assisted living do not require nursing home care. The Cottages at Hillcrest Country Estates are available for people who require twenty-four hour skilled medical care on a routine basis. Residents who live in assisted living are not dependent on staff for their total care needs consistently.
